A retro, vintage Christmas

I have become a true lover of retro Christmas stuff, like these needlework decorations.

The ceramic-cups for mulled wine are made by Knabstrup, and they make the glögg even tastier :-)
Underneath is a vintage 70s retro Christmas tablecloth in shouty colours. Gotta love that.

This dude may look old, however he is actually rather new - and not a vintage find.

Just a few days left...

Just a few days left until we decorate the entire house, and the whole family is counting the days until Saturday. The day we fetch the tree and spend the entire day singing Christmas songs, drinking Mulled wine and decorating, is always magical.

Whether we have room for all the decorations, will be another matter!

We will do our best to fit it all in though :-)

Christmas outfits

During December I dig out my Christmas outfits and hats.
The sillier the better :-)

This year's Christmastree-hat ;-)

Christmas past and the Christmas spirit

Christmas was always a big thing in my family, and I have most assuredly passed that tradition on to our children with my husband. I am from Sweden and he is from Denmark, so we have a mixed bag of traditions. In stead of choosing between traditions - we have adapted them all!

Growing up, we had a Santa every year in my family - even when we were all way to big to believe in his existence. We just took turns being Santa and had a laugh. This is a mid-80s picture of me and my little sister as (some rather spooky specimens of) Santa and Mrs. Santa.

Our own kids are way to big to believe in Santa anymore, however we keep it going. When they were this age though, things were different...

And even if you are too grown-up to believe in Santa, one can never be too old to believe in the Christmas spirit!

Vintage Christmas stuff

I have always loved going to fleemarkets to make a bargain, however these last few years I have realised how wonderful vintage Christmas decorations are. They do break more easily, yet the quality is often breathtaking.

These baubles for example are manmade - not massproduced. Somewhere in Sweden a man sat there and made these by hand (or mouth rather). For me to pick them up at the local charity shop for almost nothing, was a lucky strike indeed!

My daughter is very fond of baking and last year we really got going on the Christmas cookiebaking tradition making all kinds of traditional Scandinavian cookies. Naturally these had to be stored in vintage cake tins!

Being a Christmas lover

Since childhood I have loved Christmas and the atmosphere it brings.
We were five kids and money was short, however our Mother always managed to bring the Christmas magic into our home.

So what is it that I love most about Christmas. Is it the food? The gifts? The glitter and ornaments?
Truth be told, I love all of it, however the most important thing is surely the togetherness, the love and the laughter...

Luckily, we have a very spacious attic, because when it comes to Christmas decorations and such, I cannot seem to get enough. Last count was about twenty boxes, but that might be more now, as I have amassed some during the year at local fleemarkets. I especially love vintage baubles, retro Christmas tablecloths, old quirky ornaments and the like.

I hope you will enjoy my Christmas blog!
